    SMR No18 & LVR 5917

We were on our way to another place yesterday afternoon, when I noticed some activity at the disused Neath NSW siding, this is on the privately owned South Maitland Railway, there were 5 cars in all 2 locomotives, lot's of cameras etc so I directed the good wife to another area some 5k's away, luckily she had her phone LOL, anyway here is SMR No 18 (10 class) double heading with Mikado 2-8-2 LVR's 5917, going through the disused station platform at Weston NSW

Steamfest is not until next weekend so I have no idea on why this run took place, just wish I had known about it, cheers Dennis

    Thanks mate for posting this!
Ahhh, Friday night, 11:50pm, I heard a steam whistle. Jumped out of bed and ran to the window that looks out over good old Cardiff. Heard it again, did not sound like the "bullroarer", sounded American. Thought it might be 5910. But, maybe it was 5917?. Can anyone confirm this?. Sounded awesome in the dead of night, echoing around the hills.
    Regards
    Robbo

Hey Robbo, 5910 may never turn a wheel in operation again (tired boiler), so if it was a yankee whistle in NSW it'll be 5917.

    Cheers for the pic Dennis!

I wish they had advertised that run, as I know the line in my part of the world very well, and I would have recorded it to show on here via utube a week ago.
We came across it at Neath on it's return journey, catching 2 images off my wifes phone, damn shame I missed out, cheers Dennis

Yeah, I would have been there with my camera also. Recognise many of the spots particularly the old water tank at Weston!!!

Yes, I saw that mate. Was great to see. Spreading awareness of such a great piece of rail infrastructure that could be used as a tourist attraction to the vineyards???. How good would that be??. Revenue raising income that would secure the future of the 10 class!!.
    Regards

When you consider that rail line lay un-used for a number of years, before being rebuilt, it would indeed be great, just needs somebody with some drive to get it going!!!!
