The ARHS ACT brought a South African Garratt driver over to teach them how to set up the auto stoker distribution jets, as they couldn't find anyone with AD60 experience who had an accurate and sound memory! Little did they know they should have put a wanted ad up on AULRO

There should still be firemen around I would have thought that could have helped out , probably did not know !! , it took a while to learn the art , I used to fire flat and hot and not much in the back corners with just a tinge of smoke when working hard out of Broadmeadow , you had to be carefull not to put excess coal on the feed plate just inside the fire box door as the screw stoker could catch you out and build up making a lot of work to clear it with the pricker if you did not keep an eye on it , as the steam jets could not move it to well , that would really **** off the driver and make it a bad day .

It wouldn't surprise me if the South African fellow was over for other reasons and offered his advice, and the story has improved since

Here's a longer video of the beast on light engine trial:

I saw 6029 this afternoon steaming through Tarago towards Goulburn - Magnificent !! It had a couple of passenger carriages and an old Diesel Locomotive in tow. Nothing like a backup in case something goes wrong.

    6029 Goulburn to Canberra

Here is 6029 on it’s trial run from Goulburn to Canberra on 14/08/14

Check the cattle in the paddock to the right of the line. They have probably seen plenty of trains, but what the hell is this!!!!

    Great clip. Thanks Drivesafe!.
Thoroughly enjoyable to see. It has quite a turn of speed too.
Can't wait to see it up close. I wonder how 6029's great grandfather is doing? 1210?.
    Regards
    Robbo

I was out for a drive and happened upon the beast at Tarago station, took a few snaps:

Also liked the old Diesel too:
