Warn Winch Motors - Will a 6hp fit?

    Gday

I'm currently rebuilding an XD9000 Warn winch

I'm after a new motor for it, I'm pretty sure it came standard with a 4.6hp motor

Will the larger 6hp motor bolt straight on?

    Thanks

    Hi Jock,

It depends on the year from memory. They changed the input gear in the housing but I can't remember the exact details

if it had the 4.6hp standard I think it will as I swapped the 6hp from an xp onto my 8274-50 which had the 4.6hp motor.

    cheers
    Pete

As far as I'm aware the XP9.5 or 9500 (???) is just an XD9000 with a 6hp motor.

I think the motor does just go straight on, and all of the warm motors are interchangable, but the 6hp is pretty big and you may find the winch when mounted is already up against the chassis rail with the 4.6hp, yet the 6hp being longer wont fit.
    Cheers

If the difference in the input gears is only the motor shaft being keyed (early) or splined (late) then they should interchange (they will on the 8274 and the motors aree the same) and so the motors should interchange also but the length is in question.

You can buy the input gear which will allow an older winch to take the newer motor. Check eBay.

I got the manual if you want it

    SERVICE MANUAL
    FOR THE
    Warn
    Mid-Frame Winches
    M-6000, M-8000, XD9000
    12V DC
    Electric Winch

5.33 Mb as Warn US sent it to me a few months ago (very helpful buggers at Warn)

I wish the 8274 manual had the same detail.... but at least covered on the internet
