Winch solenoids and power activation switch

I have purchased two Carling Technologies switches < V-Series: Contura II & III | carlingtech.com > which I intend to mount in my Mudpod. The first is a Winch Power switch (essentially on/off switch) and the second is a Winch In/Winch Out switch (essentially on/off/on switch I think).

The idea for the Winch Power switch came from < www.discovery2.co.uk* / Winch Cut - Out >, as at present I use a battery master switch (such as Products ) which was included in the box with the winch, but has previously failed on me from corrosion in the contacts, and thought this would be a handy way to replace it.

The winch that I have is an Ironman Monster Winch 9500lb steel cable - it's been superseded now by a new model < Ironman 4x4 Monster Winch >

    Now, my actual question are:

    1. where would I purchase a solenoid such as the one that Urban Panzer has used? He refers to it as a ""single" Albright solenoid", but that doesn't seem to come up with much in my Google searching?

    2. instead, could I replace the original control box that was included with the winch, and the battery master switch with a single solenoid pack that I can turn on using a switch on the dash and control the wind in/out with a dash switch?

    Hi,
Did you ever work out the solenoid?
I'm working on a similar for my D2 winch, I found this on Ebay
62132 Warn Power Interrupt KIT | eBay
Its a Warn brand so should be upto it, I'm still like you searching for the solenoid, thinking if I got that I could organise the wiring to a Carling switch myself.
    Cheers / Andy

    1. What you are refering to is more accurately termed a contactor. Devon 4x4 (UK) can supply these.

    2. Yes you can do exactly as you say. You just have to replace the winch solenoid so with a two (three) way contractor and wire it to controll switches to operate the winch remotely.

I am just in the middle of doing this at the moment but will be using a wireless remote rather than dash mounted switches.

Happy to post some pictures and provide some more details if it will help.

I have one of these solenoids spare < http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?pa...mart&Itemid=14 > I was thinking of using it line of the main power cable to the winch and using a switch onto it to control it.

Fitted the contractor and remote this weekend and just have to wire up the 'activation switch'. I'll take some picks and post up in the week when I get some more time. Posting pictures always seems to be a real drag.

Too much work and not enough play meant I went driving today .

Hold tight and I'll get round to it.
