Roller fairlead with synthetic rope

Hi,
Thanks for the lead to Nugget.
I suspected the eBay cheapies would be consumable, but even my original Runvar has aged rather than worn, and it was machine from a billet, chromed and laquered.
The rollers are availble in poly, but don't come with the mounting bracket and pins and are $80 or so.
It is not an urgent matter, but using it on Sunday, I noticed it when cleaning up and washing and re spooling the rope.

I wouldn't use a roller fairlead, for straight on pulls they will be ok but if its angled the rope can get caught between the vertical and horizontal rollers and get shredded by the bracket.
I did notice Andrew from LRA's LS powered D2 has a roller with synthetic rope while we were getting pizza the other night.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I thought some real world experience would be good to share.

I've had a roller and synthetic rope for some time now.

Most of the winching I have done has been fairly easy (straight line pull, low gradient and/or low resistance). In these situations the rope simply slid over the rollers rather than the rollers rolling with the rope.

I have only noticed the rollers roll with the rope when the winching has been harder. ie: on a sharper gradient/angle or when the load was heavier.

I've found the vertical rollers have rolled more often than the horizontal but I figure an acute left/right angle is more common than an acute up/down gradient.

I have not had any issues with rope jamming in the corner between horizontal and vertical, but having said that, those extreme angle and gradient situations have been rare.

Its a good video, although I run a 1.5" deep hawse so my radius are larger and smoother.

I have seen Synthetic dragged into the corner of the roller and damaged, I've also seen abraded hawse shred rope.

If weight is getting up there, any saving helps..

It is No biggie to sand and repolish the hawse If it gets damaged

Although I haven’t needed the winch since I fitted it 10 years ago so smooth as new

Have you serviced the winch over the last 10 years?

Annually. Even before installing a new winch they're torn down, cleaned, re-lubricated and assembled.
I've always done this, the grease I use is better than any manufacturer uses.

I also run them out and re-spool every few months, and wash the rope.
