Looking at buying a winch and came across Bushman winch...Kind of appeals, no maintenance, no draw on electrical system etc.
However, if they are any good then why aren't they more common.
Has anyone used them and were they any good.
One limitation I can see on tight tracks is you may ba unable to attach the capstan?

Interesting idea
You normally have the engine running when using an electric winch, so you are replacing what you are using
If you are in a tricky spot it looks like you have to remove all the wheel nuts to fit....could this cause the car to move and push the wheel off............or is the big hole in the middle of the slot design to go over the nut? Either way with side load on the wheel it could be difficult to fit.
You don't see many, if any of these around for a reason.
naw,, they supply special wheelnuts and the drum just slips on.

I've seen them at the shows. You replace your wheel nuts with longer supplied special nuts.
When I saw them my first impressions are that its bulky to store as it uses a drum and triangle type frame thing. And although not difficult to install it's not simple like pulling out a winch rope and and clipping on.
I thought I'd stick with my electric winch. I bought a Repco 12000lb jobby for $350 and the bushman was around $800 if I remember correctly. Why would you bother.
I think the market decides. Most people prefer electric winches. I also have a tirfor and I've only used it once as its a lot more work, bulky and not simple like my electric winch.
