This article shows just how different the priorities in UK are to OZ.
The X5 and XC90 are not 4WDs in the true sense and comparing them with a D4 is rubbish.
Although I have lots of reservations about D4's suitability to OZ eg 19 inch wheels, electronics , small fuel tank, I know which I would trust for a round OZ trip, particularly towing.

Yep, I had a look at that and thought the exact same thing. It's horses for courses really. Would be interesting to see the same comparison done by car reviewers in Australia or Africa and note what the biases were.....

Its probably a pretty good review for the majority who want a 4WD type of thing but don't plan on offroading it.

My brother has taken his xc90 out in the bush with us (madness) held us up countless times on easy tracks. No snatch points at all and Volvo say it will take you to the wilderness but not into or through it and that's pretty accurate. I have videos of it in action if you're interested.
