haveing just come from the area i thought the artical was a little lacking.
of intrest, under 25 deg the snow is not powder its small and hard, like sand, its even behaves like sand. the main roads get a build up of compressed snow any thing up to 300mm think, this is not a bad serface to drive on suprisinly gripy.
the russians doint leave there cars running, that do have garages, water heaters both gas petrol and electric, if you left your car running it would be stolen.
diesels have problems, thay add kero 10% or petrol 5% to the fule. but in middle russia most trucks are petrol. USH ( sounds like) big V8 petrol 70 liters per 100 klms 6X6, theres a green one in the back ground on there web site.

its not so bad driving across in winter time, much better than spring, thats when you get ice and water = mud.
its a common trip, with many cars from japan being drven accross to mosscow the trp takes about 5 weeks.
