Just google the bloke's name, there was plenty of coverage at the time.
its really sad reading but that aside for a moment i can't help wondering how many of them would still be stuck in there after the roll without the roll cage.
but yes makes you wonder what he had done to it.
yeppa thats what i was thinking. Not defending the guy, but i was thinking what if the same act was played out in some other shopping cart or a people mover.
all i have found was that the calipers were different sizes on the front, NOT GOOD. that the 110 was built out of five different 110s SO WHAT. and some bracket broke due to fatigue. need more info. and that it had passed a WOF not long before this would have involved a breaking test and a visual and shake with a bar of wheels and suspension. but i haven't found any real info.
Don't know about you guys but there's no way in hell I'd take my family out in a car this conditionThe jury were shown DVD footage of police tests carried out on the car at RAF Scampton, which found that the calliper on the offside front brake was larger than the one on the nearside front brake, which caused the car to slew when the brakes were applied.
Mr Spencer told the jury that the brake pedals were worn and that, as a result, the brake pedal had to be pressed “pretty much down to the floor” before it began to stop the car.
Experts also found the steering and rear axle to be defective.
The court heard that the Land Rover passed an MoT in February last year but a friend had seen Mr Gresham, a mechanic, repeatedly making repairs to a faulty rear axle that had come loose a fortnight before the crash. It was a bracket snapping on this rear axle that caused the car to swerve as it moved on to the grass verge, the court heard.
naaa that caliper thing is just really dumb
a vehicle of almost anyage could suffer fatigue but if you had any doubts at all sholdnt involve the kids but I guess he's the one with that on his mind for the rest of his life.
Its one thing if its an accident from something unknown but to have kids in your car with known faulty brakes![]()
There was a couple of articles regarding this incedent in the Lnd Rover Owner International mag.
Will look them up.
The dad was indeed found guilty but I cant remember of what exactly.
His vehicle was reported to be in a bad state of repair as found by the court.
It was also built up of various other vehicles and I think the registration number and chassis number did not tie up.
