    Rear Stub Axle Collars!

    G'day,

anyone got some good tips on changing the collars on the stub axle while still fixed to the rear diff casing!
(Rear axle) ? mine are leaking!

i can get them off by expanding the collars with a hammer and solid chisel, and hoping to get them back on by drifting the new collars on with a steel pipe. would this work?
the front ones i had done on a workshop press while they were apart.

the rears i thought were ok but i was wrong !

also never knew on the driving flange where the hub cap is placed that there is a rubber o ring there! would a bit of silicon work as a substitute?
    No.3 in attached diagram

    cheers,

    Chris

They are the same a SII SIIA collars, i usually remove them with a cold chisel sharpened to a fine blade.

You just need to identify the joint between the stub axle and the collar (not always easy) and tap the blade of the cold chisel in the crack then wedge the collar off.
