It just so happens that I have a couple of bonnets, including one in my back yard without spare wheel supports.

80 inch hard tops on the average had no bonnet mounted spares
they were mounted in the tub behind the seat box

ah that would explain why my 1953 80" doesnt have a bonnet mtd spare as it left Granvile motors with a full hard top :D

I don't think the hardtop has a lot to do with it. What would determine the add on would be the intended use, if the idea was to carry 4 very crowded people in the back the support was affixed to the bonnet.

Most I have seen have not been fitted.

Plus, if it was mine, with an alloy radiator support panel, I wouldn't bother either.

My 107 is getting a steel radiator panel for this reason, being a trayback, I want to mount the wheel on the bonnet and don't want to crack up the alloy one.
