I've recently acquired this. I've started a sympathetic type restoration of this 107. While the engine runs quite nicely, there is a hole in the block next to the rearmost leg of the exhaust manifold. it goes through into the water jacket. What are the options for sealing up something like that?

The Aluminium threaded plugs are available , they have a conduit thread. All three S1's i have owned had a pipe thread tapped & pipe plugs fitted. Think you are correct , front guards look like could be 109

If it is 1958, and not a wagon, it is 109. Mind you, there is a great deal of uncertainty about the actual date of any Series Landrover these days, especially Series 1.

Here is the one in my sig off for a holiday.

Backing onto the ferry,Kingfisher Bay,Fraser island,last week.

She hasnt been on the island since '74.

Having got that small matter cleared up, I'm still curious about that hole. Is it a 'factory' hole that should have a thread in it or is it a casting fault that can be stopped up with a threaded bung. If the latter, where do I get the bung? The hole is about ø5mm.

engine block.jpg As you can see they were put in by LR , you will see them here at front & back of exhaust ports . I would say the centre of the Aluminium screw in plug has corroded , the plug is approx 1/2" dia , that hole looks like around 1/4 to 5/16 dia . As I have already said in my 1st reply the plugs are available but you will need to get the old plug out & hope the thread in the engine will clean up , all 3 S1's I have owned had the hole tapped to take pipe plugs before I owned them . As I said previously what ever you do the plug needs to be flush with the machined face or you will brake the manifold. The Series One Shop AU lists them around $30 each & you will need two. Thanks a lot for that extra explanation 1950landy. I've had a Defender for a while, but these older Rovers are something new to me and there's a great deal for me to learn. There is a bigger hole at the other end of the exhaust port line. I thought perhaps it should have had a welch plug in it. When it arrived there was a plug of wood in that one!
