					I made up a little device for checking the float level on the series 1 carbies .. Its an old main jet holder with a bit of metal tube soldered in, the tube is bent up 90 degress , you push on some plastic tube and you can see the petrol level inside the bowl in the plastic tube, very handy thing to have ..its critical the level is 5/8" plus or minus 1/8" below the lid . 
 
 too high and run rich..too low and it will not work well either

					Sounds like a good idea. Give us a photo.
