Yep - definitely has 86 front guards but the radiator/light front panel is from a 88.

So there you go it is earlier than I originally thought and is definitely an 86". It has surprisingly straight panels, has virtually no rust (just a little in the bulkhead under the drivers side vent) and the engine runs so it is a good starting point for a restoration.

Don't you worry WellyJ (Mrs TimJ) has her sights on it...and the kids are definitely old enough to appreciate them all....hey we will have to have a lady's series run with our vehicles

Everyone tried to tell me mine was an 88 and not an 86 when I got it, due to the body (it's a 1957 on a 1955 chassis) - just put a tape measure between the rear and front centre hub and read off the magic number.

It's an '86. In fact, I had to go downstairs and make sure my Len was still there

Well done Mr Tim. I'm more interested to see what was in the other 3 or so trailer loads

Hi Garry,

That is one of the reasons I originally thought it was an 88. Reading James Strong's book the 86 should have the radiator support with the three holes across the bottom. I don't believe this one has been modified, everything seems too original in the whole thing and also in his book there is a photo of an 86 that appears to have the same grille as this one and is stated to be original. So perhaps there was some leeway on those panels as with many others.
