    Question Information please.

    Hi,
I own a restored 1957 88" SWB in New Zealand and want to bring it into Australia.
The first point is, could someone please advise me of the best way to import it into Australia in the most cost effective way.
The second point is who do I see about it in Customs as the vehicle would be coming into Melbourne. I live in rural Victoria.
The Landrover is registered and warranted in New Zealand and has a V.I.N. plate attached to the chassis as it was restored back in 1995.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards,
    Gerald.

    Info required

    Gerald,

Taken from Vicroads website: Imported vehicle registration : VicRoads

Any vehicle being imported will require import approval to gain clearance into Australia.

To obtain import approval you need to contact the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government (DITRLG):

mail - Vehicle Safety Standards GPO Box 1553 CANBERRA ACT 2601
    telephone - (02) 6274 7506
    fax - (02) 6274 6013
website - The Department of Infrastructure and Transport Homepage

There is heaps more info on the Vicroads site

    Regards

    Wal

    Gerald,

About 12 years ago when I came to Australia I imported a number of motorbikes.
I had to get 'approval' first, basically to confirm that I could register them here in Australia. There were no duties payable because they were all over 25years old and I had owned them in the UK for at least one year.
I think you need to be a resident of the country for the 1 year rule to apply but things may have changed ...
