    parts

    dennis

my motor was the same A 2 LITRE SIAMESE ..I honed the bores ..almost nil wear from standard ..one of the main bearing shells , standard size, was pitted ..i installed standard rings and main beaRINGS ..GOT THEM AT AUTO SURPLUS IN MITCHAM ..MELBOURNE .. about $100 for each set..not cheap

BTW the rover rings are a unusual size ... the thickness is very odd

HAVE SEEN THEM ON EBAY AT TIMES ..... TOO

That's an interesting looking restoration job there Dennis. I learnt to drive in something very similar to that in a part of the NT that is now within Kakadu. And a good looking photo of "the family". I've been hearing a bit about your collection from Dennis and Amanda at work. It's good to have a couple of people up there who appreciate proper 4WD's instead of the Japanese rubbish we have to drive round in every day.

    Cheers ........... Brian

Time to get a move on

All the crap of 2011 is over so time for some series restoration.
    Ok so far for 2012.

The chassis and firewall have been blasted and await pickup.
Big end and main bearings replaced, new standard rings, core plugs, valves ground and seated, new cam bearings installed.

Rear diff adjusted and seal replaced, rear wheel /axle bearings and seals replaced and assembled waiting chassis.
Front diff same treatment and all hub components replaced and adjusted also ready to bolt on.
I have overhauled the gear box replacing all needy bits and normal adjustments, ready to swing in.

Amazing work Dennis, I envy you. You seem to just do this and do that, whack that out and in.
I hope by the time I acquire the space, tools and knowledge there will be some decent S1's worth bringing back too life.

    great read
    thanks

    Thanks "newhue"
S1's are the painless of cars to work on, little heavy at times and Al can be testing at times but really simple tools are all you need.
I will save you 1 or 2 let me know when you want to start.
    Dennis
