    205 R16s on 5 inch rims?

    I found a set of good used Dunlop Road Grippers in 205 R16 for my 86.

    I understand the recommended rim for these is 5.5 or 6 inch.

    I would like to keep the original rims. Do others out there have 205 R16s on standard 5 inch rims and, if so, what difference does it make?

    Yes, I do.

    The tyres are technically too big for 5" rims, but I have had them on my S1 for about 3 years with no problems. They are Michelin Synchrone from a Range Rover. Drove it to Cooma for the Sixtieth with these tyres.

    you'll have to mess with the pressures to get the contact patch right and depending on the construction of the tyres you may experience some "odd" feeling handling.

    Tyre wear may be off but if its only going to be low KM low speed use its a negligible issue once you get the contact patch/pressure thing sorted.

    Thanks for the responses.

    Had thought it might be a safety issue - tyres popping off or something - but agree we we won't be going far, or fast, or pushing the limits anyway.

    Are these sorts of things checked at vehicle registration inspections? And does anyone know if they run any checks on the age of tyres?
