If it is non-rusty why not offer it for free as a complete chassis first?
I'm about to cut up a 1957 86" chassis and wondered which crossmembers are worth keeping. Anything I save might help someone in the future.
The chassis only has surface rust but some damage to the rear crossmember, a couple of outriggers and the front dumb irons.
I might try to straighten the rear crossmember and then cut it off. The gearbox crossmember is perfect so that can be cut out.
It there any other part that rusts out and should be saved to help a future restoration ?
Another interesting point is that it's a green chassis from a '57, my '56 also has a green chassis. Must be something to do with CKD's as I'm sure they both haven't been re-chassied.

The most important crossmember to save is the forward one. Many of these cars had that crossmember chopped out for a Holden engine conversion . And to restore , means welding in a replacement .

I would save any cross members, front sections on the chassis (dumb irons??) and any outriggers. I need a good bell housing X member.

I've advertised the chassis on here a couple of times with absolutely no takers. I guess part of the problem is that you need to hire a trailer to collect it, also because I've been honest about the damage it may have put people off.
I've finally got round to taking the rear tub off and removed all the cappings and the steel supports underneath so it can go for scrap. The gearbox & transfer need to be lifted out and the front axle removed and it's ready to go
For a nominal sum someone can have it.
I can forward pictures of the damaged parts if anyone is interested.

It seems a shame but this chassis is getting chopped up if it doesn't go soon.
Someone has dibs on the gearbox crossmember if it gets chopped.
I'll advertise it in Markets again one last time.....

Colin, if it's a '57, isn't it an 88". Pity the dumb irons are damaged, as I could use a couple for my '57

Numpty,
According to the chassis plate it's a 1957 86" and just to add to the confusion it's a green chassis.
The front dumb irons aren't that bad. One is good the other has been bent at some point and then straightened so the side of the chassis rail and underneath are pushed in. Once cut off this could be fixed easily, if I was repairing the chassis I would weld some bolts to the chassis and use a slide hammer to get the dents out.
The bumper bolt holes are worn oval and also the spring hanger bolt holes have worn slightly oversize.
Considering the fact that this Landy sat in a farm field for about 15 years the chassis is remarkably rust free, it's just suffered a fair bit of mis-treatment by the farmer.....
The bulkhead was virtually rust free (I'm keeping that for a future project) the tub was a mess, that went for scrap this morning. It took a while to remove all the cappings & reinforcing underneath. The tub, tailgate & seat box (all past saving) returned $39.... hardly worth the effort but at least it's off the driveway to make room for the next project.
If you PM me your email address I can send photos of the dumb irons. If I get to the stage of cutting it up I'll get back in contact with you.

Interesting!
Unfortunately 86 and 88 dumb irons are different and they use a different bumper. But pm sent anyway.

This 86" chassis has to go.
It will be chopped up as soon as it stops raining in Melbourne.
Seems a shame but I cannot keep it any longer and nobody seems to want it.
I'll chop it into repair sections and throw the side rails away. Probably the week afterwards someone will offer me a series 1 for a bargain price that needs a chassis replacement......such is life.
