Too good to be a donor

I was lucky enough to pick up a 1958 109 at the weekend, initially I was planing on using it as a donor, but I'm starting to think it's too good for that… I've been told it used to live at the airport up here in Cairns, towing the aircraft around. Chassis number 123800180, it has another badge on the firewall; 'Body number 1980 Serial number 109 1980' is that telling me that the bulkhead was rebuilt in 1980?

Nice straight looking vehicle - certainly NOT donor material.

109 wheelbase, body number 1980. nothing to do with the year IIRC.

The other number is the PMC assembly number.

    1980th 109" assembled.

    Nice pick up.

I agree, it's too good to trash; I'm currently thinking of either swopping it for an 80, or maybe selling it to finance buying an 80 in reasonable condition... but first I need to give it a go over; as far as I can see the chassis/running gear and firewall are all in good condition, the brakes feel a little spongy, and it's not running on all cylinders, the HT leads and plugs are pretty corroded, so it may be electrical, but when I pulled the plugs, 1 and 2 where sooty, but 3 and 4 looked oily to me, haven't had a chance to investigate yet, it may be that the engine will need a bit of work, but the rest of the vehicle looks to be in excellent condition.

Edit: I forgot to mention the startings of a nice squeal coming from the water pump... but it does have a nice shiny rebuilt radiator!
