    1951 Series 1 in USA

    1951 Series 1.
Have posted this note to some of the other sites but for those who have not seen it, I recently picked up a Series 1. All serial numbered parts date to 1951 so it is a basically intact vehicle. It lived most of its life in Arizona and is rust-free. The PO told me that it is a movie star: it was in the movie, "Three Kings," and shared top billing with George Clooney. Attached is a screen capture from the movie that shows it with its roll cage (now missing) still in place. Mark Wahlberg shares this scene with the S1, as does a Bart Simpson doll wired along with his American flag to the grill of a Humvee. For those of you who have seen this movie, this is the memorable scene when a cow steps on a landmine -- the S1 cameo lasts about 1 sec, ha ha!

Good thing that I am not in a big rush on this rebuild because I have to find some parts, most pressing being a Solex 32PB12 carb. If anyone has an extra carb, please contact me. Any leads on this and other S1 parts are welcome!

Looks the goods, it even has the NAS recessed lamps.

Most people on this site won't recognise them, over the original holes there is the diamond shaped blanking plate.

Does it also have the plate blanking out the holes in the firewall where the side lamps are fitted in UK and Aussie 51?

Thanks for giving us a look.

I don't find any evidence of side lights but there are two round covers on the front of the bulkhead right below the windscreen -- don't know, front lights? Have attached additional pics. Have not done anything on the engine (no idea when it was last started) but did manage to remove the rusted in spark plugs and got some penetrating oil into each of the cylinders. Will let the oil sit there for a while until I get a chance to turn it over by hand to see if it is frozen. Removed the oil pan and did not find any metal bits so am hoping that the innards are ok.

But I need to source a carb before I'll be able to try to start it so any help on this front will be greatly appreciated!

Now that I have my 1973 Series 3 running, I discovered that I needed another project, ha ha! This will be a fun!

Love the new ho har Series 1 -- it looks just great!

Here is a PDF on that "carbafluter".
    http://www.ctaservice.se/pdf/SolexPB.pdf

Those carbs were a popular fit on lots of Brit iron of the 50's & 60's.
First thoughts are that Hillmans & Standard Triumphs used the same model.

If you still need one I could shoot you some directions to US suppliers, but sometimes an old fashioned star gazer style wrecking yard specializing in oild Brit cars might be your best option.

    Idaho-

    My missus comes from Idaho--Sandpoint!
First give Sportscar Craftsmen a call here in Denver

    Info for starters:-

    Sports Car Craftsmen, LLC
    Paul is the owner.

I will be up in Sandpoint for two weeks (annual shop shutdown)
but I will be happy to give you some more pointers if you still can't find it.

By the way I am also scouting (excuse the pun) looking for a carburetor for Rolls Royce B series engine in a Daimler Ferret scout car.
Anyone know where one is down under?
    Cheers Dennis

    very cool catch, Idaho!

Dennis, I have mate here who owns a Saracen with RR engine. Would it be the same type? If so, I can ask him if he knows of any spares supplies in Oz.

    Regards
    Matt

    nice early unit,

    welcome to the forum.

I didnt realise what the north american spec lights were when I saw them listed so its good to see..

also the blanking plates used and the bulkhead lights being covered on the firewall are interesting.

Keep us posted with photos, the series 1 area in the pinnacles will I am sure learn from this too as we havent had too many NAS series 1's I am aware of!

    Good luck with the carby
    Cheers!

Have to get my long-term memory working again, the little blanking plates are heart shaped not diamond and had not seen the firewall lights blanked like that before, although now realised that I had an image from California of them.

Have also added an image of an 80" spotted on marine Drive vancouver a few years ago.

If you cant get a Solex carby, a lot of people use the Stromberg carbs off Chev 138cid and other small Chev sixes, even if its only a temporary fit.
