Hi guys, this is my first post in this section so go easy on me. What are the options for replacing a broken axle in these vehicles, will series 2/3 fit without any mods? Are replacements hard to find?
I assume you're talking about fully floating axles.Series 2 half shafts are too long. You can use them if you fit spacers, usually turned down drive flanges. S1 half shafts are scarce and people want silly money for them.I had these spacers made 12 years ago and travelled 120'000 km without any problems.

Hi Pete,
Depends on the type of axle you have, is it a fully floating or semi floating.
Fully floating is easier to fix, you can use a later series 2-3 halfshaft however you will need to use a spacer at the flange, the later axles being wider.
The semi floating will be harder as these are unique to the series 1 only. There shoud be lots of this type around to replace a broken one, it just needs more work to change as it has a bearing and sleeve pressed on.
Im sure another member who has done this before and has pics will be along soon to assist.
All the best with fixing the broken axle.
Thanks guys. That's the information I was after. I'm considering buying the vehicle but would only do so if the fix was fairly simple. I'll do a bit of research into the different axle types.
