Thread: dynamo and progress 1955 86 "

hi all
just a question re dynamo , mines buggered,ive changed bushes to no avail,still getting a reading of less than a volt across a rev range .
Q are they freely available or is it a repair/rebuild issue?
Anyone know of a scource?

I seem to have reduced my smoking issue with valve gap adjustment ,pulled the sump off and cleaned and refitted{not what id call eccesive sludge,and replaced ht leads} starts first crank or so now .

Been running it short distances{no reg and no space for longer runs} and it seems to be settleing down a bit.

Also ran wiring for blinkers using a 1980's rrc blinker switch but need to sort out front blinkers as im using the running lights at the moment{cheep trailer lights on exsisting holes in rear} .Pulled and fixed fuel level sender{no insulation between bolt and body} still have some dash wiring gremlins to find,but there relitivly small.

Looking towards club rego i guess ill have to sort some kind of mirror , fix the wiper arm. The breaks seem fine ,no leaks .

ahhh horn , its buggered to ,totaly rusted out so i need a replacement.:{

I had similar issues with our 2a recently. Disconnect the vehicle wiring from the generator and join the output and field terminals together. Start vehicle and increase the revs slowly, if the voltage climbs as you increase the revs the fault is within the voltage regulator or wiring, if the voltage still stays less than a volt the fault is internal within the generator.

The issue with mine ended up being the armature was going open circuit when spun up to operating revs. Replacement armature, reset voltage regulator. Good as gold.
