Fitting indicators, which switching?

My 86" has the remains of some surface mounted lights in the lower rear panels, which I can use to mount some indicators without having to drill any new holes. At the front I intend to use the bumper mounting bolts and a bracket and as per Gromits suggestion.

Thanks everyone. It think I'll confirm with my local Dept of Transport before I commit to panel mounting though.

Next job is to source a new wiring loom, as while the existing one could be made servicable with a lot of work, there is no colouring left in the cable sheaths, so each wire has to be traced to work out which is which. The main dilema seems to be supporting an AU business vs sourcing from the UK??

re switch, theres lucas alloy cased switches that mount to the steering colum that turn up on ebay fairly frequently ,im looking at picking up one of those eventualy.....right now im using an old 80,s rrc switch ,it just clamps on the colum {ugly but works}, ive used the choke warning light in the panel wich blinks when the blinkers are on.....

As for the front blinker lights iam not sure that i want to make an extra hole for the seprate blinker light :( rather instead ill go with the park lamp blinker combanation that was factory fitted to the later series 1 Station Wagons:cool:

The indicators in my 1960 Series II are on a toggle switch.

I have purchased several looms from the Au companies and would again, both supply good product. But you need to state exactly what you want and remember to explain which dip switch setup you have. Ask and make sure you end up with wax cotton not poxy plastic covered wire. They will install the extra indicator wiring into the looms.
If indicators where installed from Rover a separate loom was used and in your case a rotary type “bakerlight” switch was placed on a plate mounted just to the right of the existing instruments.
My 107 wagon had factory indicators fitted no inside indicator light, so technically I would say you don’t need one but I would and have fitted one, One of the indicators like the oil light look right and with a bit of modern magic ie: 2 diodes can be made to indicate left or right.

You can also wire the globe in parallel with the indicator switch feed from the flasher unit.

Hi Guys, I have a '53 shortie and I used Lucas lamps out of an early 60's Rover 105. No difference in external appearance but made to take a standard stop/tail lamp globe(BA 15 D). Tail becomes side, and stop becomes turn. It's not amber, but should pass club rego. requirements. From memory the column-mounted switch came from a Morris 850.
