1949 80" Replacement canvas... Which one

Ok, so first up this is a bit hypothetical because I still haven't bought the car I'm considering...

However, the car currently has a fairly neat truck cab canvas with flat sticks.

From a functional perspective there is no need to change it, however I would want a full length one to give the back some cover.

So, I understand the 48's & 49's had flat sticks and some time later they changed to the hooped sticks. I also understand that the hooped stick canvas' can be used (with hopped sticks) on the 48's & 49's.

Now, I'm long(ish) backed and short legged so my head was constantly banging on the flapping flat top canvas on the freeway.

If I were to get a full length hooped canvas, would this be eilminated / VERY much reduced?

I am assuming a full length canvas allows a bit more tension in the flat ropes and the hoops will give another inch of headroom.

Another thought, could the sticks be extended an inch without problems/canvas not fitting to give a smidge more headroom??

    Thx
    Jon

I have recently bought a replacement Hood for my '48 from Tom Pickford at WwSpares.

The hood looks spot on, great colour match and has all the correct fittings for the year of manufacture. The general consensus is that Exmoor ones are not the same quality or 100% correct compared to Toms. He can also supply hood sticks to suit.

Drop him a line; Tom Pickford, wwspares@aol.com

    Cheers,

    Andy

The early 49s are the same as the 48s but around Mid year they changed from the Screw on tie downs for the canvas to the spot welded ones so they are different.

I think it depends on what standard you are aiming for, if you just want a hood to cover you vehicle, then fine you get what you pay for.
