    Reengineer

    What modifications are required to replace a 2l with a 2.25.

    Engine mounts?

    Will the si bell housing mate up retaining the clutch?

    Length? Cooling fan?

    Gearbox bell housing needs to be swapped, the series one 2.0 ltr petrol and the series two 2.6 ltr six cylinder have the top bolt holes either side of the top centre, whereas the 2.25 ltr four cylinder has a single bolt hole at the top centre.

    side engine mount brackets are the same.

    Will the si bell housing mate up retaining the clutch?
    you can use the same clutch plate and pressure plate.
    The mechanical series one clutch linkage will fit into the series two bell housing.

    Length? Cooling fan?
    Tip the front of the engine up by using a pair of rubber engine mounts from a petrol F engine FJ40 Toyota, that gives a bit more room between the top of the diff housing and the front pulley, but you can still get the crank handle in.
    You can use the fan from either engine, but watch the clearance between the tips of the fan and the radiator cowling.

    The exhaust pipe needs to be replaced with the engine section for a series two and bit of plumbing for the fuel line, run that line through some garden hose stops vapour locks occurring.

    You wont need the electric fuel pump but don't lose it as they are getting scarce.

    dosent somthing foul the bonnet? carb perhaps...theres a lot on lrsoc.com re 2.25's into s1's {i think you need to cut a section of the bonnet bracing so the carb fits}

    nah no need to cut but you have to fab up a carb inlet elbow that dosent foul the bonnet

    Straightening the plates out on the bonnet hinges works as well.

    Sorry I can't help you as mine is a 109.However if you want to keep your S1 gearbox you'll need an early S2 bell housing with the small lay shaft bearing.You'll have to alter the carburettor linkage because the carby will be on the passenger side.The bottom inlet on the radiator will have to be relocated to to the driver side.If you raise the engine to clear the diff you may have trouble using the crank handle or a capstan winch. These are just a few things that spring to mind.I think it's best to take advise from someone that has actually done the switch and can assist you with pictures. .W.

    The gearbox for the six cylinder definitely had the larger layshaft bearing, I'm not sure when exactly the 2.25 gearbox went with a larger bearing, I'll try and work that out from the parts manual.

    You'll have to alter the carburettor linkage because the carby will be on the passenger side.
    See if you can get those parts from the donor car.

    You should be right if you get those Toyota rubber mounts I suggested, but if you think the diff could still hit, move the bump stops down a bit with a spacer.
