The engine brackets are a copy of ones Russelrover had ( thanks Jim) , the winch mounting I made up from an origional the guy i got it off had & the roller brackets I fabricated out of steel using a origional alum one as a pattern & then had them galvanised , then wiped them with week acid to make them look like alum. Got it working late last year . Looks like i,ve got a water leak , probely the rotten after market water pump I fitted last year , had to grind all the bottom of the pump to clear the timing cover & drill all the holes over size so the bolt holes would line up , or may be heater tap needs a new packing .
What brand is yours looks different to the MAP I have bought ?

I made them out of steel because all the aluminum ones I saw were cracked .

I am not sure can't see any brand name on it but looks the same as in my 80" parts book & workshop manual. If you are coming to Brisbane at any time you are welcome to come & have a look.

    A few different types

Series Land Rovers, Options, Capstan winch

Over the years, Land Rover offered a number of dealer options for Land Rovers.. One was the capstan winch made by Fairey as LR Kit 5300.

    There are two types there.
The original was the Aeroparts Capstan . This had the mounting plate turned down at the front cross member.
107 wagons and some 86",s came with welded in tubes in the front cross member to suit these winches

The Fairey came later, designed for the 2 1/4 engine and has the mounting plate turned up at the front cross member. Also has a different drive and roller setup. Because the plate turns up the mounting rivnuts are in a different place to the Aeroparts.

I should point out that the early Aeroparts had a alloy base plate that was rounded back and front. These are hard to find. Later and the more common one has the alloy base plate cut flat back and front next to the radiator support panel and the bumper.

I seem to remember when Range Rovers first came out ,they were available with a Fairey capstan. Can someone confirm this? Or maybe my memory is playing tricks? .W.

Mike, are you driving from Bris to Adelaide? I am heading that way some time after Christmas.

I know the Range Rovers on the Trans Americas Expedition AKA the Darian Gap ones had Capstan winches on them.
