Pulled the gearbox out of the 88 today and cleaned it up . Strip it down this week once rebuilt its going into the 109 . This will keep downtime to a minimum as I am enjoying driving the 109 so much and its so handy for shifting stuff around.

Yes it could; classic sign of stuck rings!
It might be worth using an engine flush such as Nulon lifter cleaner to get most of the black stuff out, especially as the compression is good. I would be inclined to take the sump off and clean the inside and anything else that needs doing and put a new gasket on it,
Cheers Charlie

Ok I cut it into 2 parts here is part 1 from Keiths place to Broken Hill. With the Wilcannia track footage.
Now grab a beer or glass of wine some bickies and dip sit down and relax and enjoy my crossing of our vast continent from East to West in a vehicle built in the same year I was born 1958.
Enjoy

Hi Mike
That video of Borumbah's trip is a great effort, the feeling of those long flat roads certainly came through.
How is Borumbah settling into his new home?
.
Seems to have pushed the Defender out into the weather . I have been driving around Perth quite a bit visiting friends. I pulled the gearbox out of the 88 yesterday and when its rebuilt will swap it into Borumbah which is getting a bit noisy. Gotr hold of Qld transport and the plates are on the way after a bit of a mix up . They sent them to my last address in Qld 10 years ago . No I don't know why but they did.
