    DISSION TIME

    Hey guys,
New to this so i am finding my way around this site.
I have been reading about the series 1 for about 4 months getting some info because my neighbour has one, a 56 (LWB I think ) ute which i can have. I have owned a series 2a a few years ago but i like the series1.
It is in pretty good nick as it has been garaged for 20 years. It is mostly origanal to my limited knowledge, it has been fitted with a different fuel pump and has a brake booster on it which i would imagine is not original.
He used to drive it on the farm around 5 years ago with only the handbrake as brakes as the brake line is kinked over. ( Not good on very steep terrain towing a trailer full of timber ). I would appreciate some info on renewing all brake lines and (replacement or servicing whichever is best ) of all other braking components. ( Maybe a rough estimate on price ) the rest of the vehicle is in pretty good condition from looking at it but i would imagine there would be some surprises install along the way. It is still sitting nice and dry in his shed so now is the time to get some info and contacts. The BIG decision is to just fix it to get it going for at home or spend a lot of time on it and road register the series1.
    Thanks

    Whoa

Remove the old lines as carefully as you can to keep the length that is needed, along with the flare fittings and take them into ABS or a similar brake repair place.
They can make you a line while you wait and your out of their place in well under a hour.

The reason the lines were disconnected probably means the master and wheel cylinders need repairing or replacing.

    Welcome to Land Rovers!

If the vehicle has been operated seriously without service brakes as yoou indicate, then there are probably other examples of seriously neglected maintenance - worn swivel bearings, tie rod ends, spring bushes etc. While none of these, nor the brakes are either difficult or particularly expensive to restore, they add up! However, provided the chassis and bulkhead are free of serious rust, as a project it is almost certainly viable.

Parts are available, although some are expensive and/or hard to find, and the end result is likely to be rewarding. I suggest read all you can of the Series pages here, just so you get a good idea of what you would be taking on.

It is unlikely that the real value of the vehicle is much above scrap value except perhaps as parts, unless it is a special or rare model.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Theres a few ways you can go to get the brakes sorted, Go see you local brake specialist take what is left of your old brake lines and get new ones made up, more then likely you will need the master cylinder over hauled too along with new flexiable brake lines as well as getting all 6 wheel cylinders over hauled or replaced. that's at a guess would be around $400 to $600 depending where you go.
Or you can try ordering throu one of the Land Rover stockest that specialise in series one's parts, you can buy just about every thing new but at a price heres a kit thou its for a 88" for example Automec Copper Brake Pipe Set Kit Land Rover Series 1 8 | eBay

New series 1 LWB master cylinders are very hard to come by and go for a lot of $$$

Be worth while to check out your brake shoes and drums as well while your at it.

Any ways keep us all posted on your progress and a few pics would be great to see too
