any kind of style?
Hi all,
After nearly 4 years we have nearly completed the full restro of our 1954 86". We had the engine running for the first time a week or so ago - very exciting!! My next task is to source tyres. I understand the standard size for 86" where 600 x 16, but are considering a slightly larger tyre 650 x 16.
Appreciate an opinions on brands, types, sizes etc.
any kind of style?
There are a lot of threads covering tyres.
Depends on whether you want them to look original or you're happy with radials.
If you use the search function you can find a lot of info.

You may have to hunt around on the net or find a good tyre supplier that will chase around for you.
Best of luck.

Hi Oowie,
The best supplier I have found is on your doorstep, or at least in Vic:
www.antiquetyres.com.au
Most of our little group run Firestone 600-16 NDT's. They are 8 ply from memory & seem to last quit well, respond well to airing down & are the original size. My 80" originally had 700-16 but these were very old & performance due to larger diameter was not as good, especially uphill.
Or you could get your local supplier to get in touch with this mob.

I called in. They're not into dealing with the public.
They're not into getting any 1200x20 bar treads either. "No market for it" they said.
They did have a few nice looking 750x16 bar treads sitting out the door when I was there.
I would encourage all the Inter owners to mount an email and phone campaign to annoy them into importing some 1200x20 bar treads.
I'm running 205/16's on the 88 at the present (which technically are too big for the wheels) but have some 650/16 Goodyear Xtra Grip to go on him when I get a round toit

I put Deestone bar treads on my 80" bought from the local Jac's tyre shop in Ballina, they were the only 600 x 16 available and whilst I haven't used them on the road due to an ongoing restoration, they look great on the truck. Looking froward to getting them on the raod!
Cheers Nick
Hi All,
Thanks for all the feedback. I will have a chat to Antique Tyres, as they are close by.
Thanks again.
