    Len Beadells landies.

Does anyone know if any of Len Beadells landies still exsist? From reading the books it sounds as if quite a few were involved with his projects over a long period.

Firstly, they weren't Len Beadels Land Rovers, they belonged to the Department of the Interior and were driven by a lot of the surveyors and construction teams, although Len was the first and did benefit us all by writing about it. I worked with a woman who grew up in Alice Springs, the daughter of another of the surveyors, every time someone mentioned Len's great achievements he just shook his head, rolled his eyes and went back to what he was doing.

There was one of the vehicles in WA waiting for restoration a while ago.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Sorry, I should have made it clear, the landies that Len beadell drove and the many that were involved in the project..it's pretty obvious that they were commonwealth of Aust vehicles. I figured after the grader, dozer and leyland truck were all accounted for, someone must have tried to track down some of the landies?

I know of a 53 model that was covered in white and black random square patterns. The owner insisted that it was an ex Beadell vehicle.

Is this the same one you know of Diana? It was located North of Perth.

Yes it had fittings extremely similar to ones used by Beadel and identified in pictures, but IIRC the patches were reversed. I didn't know what happened to it after the owner died around 2008, the collection was being disposed of.

It was missing axles if I remember correctly.

I was told I have a Len Beadell series 1 by the previous owner. Alas I don't thanks to Diana, the Grenville Motors book state's my 'connie-sue' was sold 8/12/1950 by a Tamworth Land Rover Dealer. The name 'connie-sue' is because of Len Beadell's daughter

    Len beadells landrover 1953

The Len Beadell 1953 landrover is definitely in Perth Western Australia( at the date of this post) .I was checking out a series 1 88inch south of Perth when the person I was selling the landie (out of the blue ) asked me if I knew about Len Beadells Landies, As I have a photo of the 53 landy just before it was sold in WA.they told me a relative has it in storage .In 1997 I was told about Len Beadells surveying days by one of my previous work collegues who knew him well .So, since then Ive been very interested in the black and white survey landies.I was stunned when this person told me where the 53 landy was now.I was told it still has all the survey and bush bars Len Beadell had put onto the landy.I was told previously about the bars and all from the gentleman who previously stored the landrover before it was sold on.the photos of this landy are in Lens books.

These are perhaps new to the NAA, I hadn't seen them on previous searches:

Astro Station - Tallaringa Well 1951 (persons identity uncertain) -see att file

Mabel Creek - L Beadell 1949 -see att file

1954 at Maralinga, closer LR pic than others I have seen. I have one of these Commonwealth folding leg tables. They are heavy hardwood.
