    Surprise!

The surprise is that all the valves still look serviceable.

The Head gasket looks like the head wasn't pulled down properly and it was leaking between 1 and 2, blown badly between 3 and 4 with a piece missing completely at the back of number 4.

Thank you Dane h for your offer, I passed this onto Gus and he will be dealing with this side of things.

Public holiday here in Tassie today so that will slow things a bit getting any parts over, then getting the head checked for warping and cracks.

Gus is sort of happy after finding this, next step is to make Gus really happy.

    Hi Colin

Thanks for that, I have already given Gus the details to contact Four Wheel Drives. They are certainly a good standby for those with the proper Land Rovers.

Gus has decarbonised the head and block and is ready for the head gasket when it arrives, hopefully tomorrow.

As Arthur has been on top of descriptions, here is a photo of the offending gasket.

Remember to re-torque the head after about 500 miles, and probably again after a couple of thousand.

    The land of the Giants

Hi Gus, it was good to see that grin back at widest setting and don't forget to record the sounds of the Series one for my sleep background noise.
