    Steering Box

Hi guys, any recommendations for quality overhaul providers in Oz for the Series one steering box? Have both the early & later boxes as I have a range of S1 including 80", 86",88" and a 107" four door (which is looking for a new home.

My fathers 88" steering is bad to the point of dangerous so I want to do a full refurb of the box & relay.

    thanks.

Nice looking S1 wagon!. I have heard they are very difficult to rebuild.....
Not sure of anyone in Aus. Are you sure the steering problems are due to the box and not from any of the joints and linkages?

I'd be taking it apart and seeing what the problem is first.
As mentioned, it may not be the steering box.

Not sure about parts supply in the local market. You'd have to contact the known LR suppliers up & down the Country.
If you trawl the internet you'll find suppliers for some parts in the UK

Check this Land Rover Series 2, 2A & 3 Steering Box Repair Kit | eBay

Assume you have the later recirc ball steering box?

Have also seen some relay parts on ebay recently

    Cheers

Thanks guys. I'm getting the lot checked out by Fulcrum soon, all the ball ends are new but the relay has a fair bit of slop in it. These guys look very good.... ICS Steering Specialist

The relay is quite easy to overhaul and parts are available but you do need to make a tool to compress the spring. Some details here Isuzu C240 powered Series 3
You might need someone with a lathe to skim the shaft if it's pitted.

Aftermarket relays are available but the quality is a bit suspect. Best to repair an original if you can. The last one I did cost two seals, two gaskets and a bit of time......
