    Rear engine oil seal

Hi all. I have a 56 2L. Was leaking from the rear oil seal. Replaced with a new one. Leak as bad. Applied more silicon and leaned engine back it see if still leaks. Does.

Am about to put another new seal on. Any tips, tricks, advice? Is a two piece seal and can see daylight through the join when the two halves are put together.

    Regards,

    Gilski

I didn't think they had a rear seal I thought they have a worm drive that channels the oil back into the engine. Mine leaks I think they all do .

    Thanks defender mike.

This one has a 2 piece seal. Good to know that they all seem to leak

Did you trim the ends of the seal as per the manual?

I rebuilt my 57 2lt a couple of months ago ,I assembled the rear seal with a thin layer of ULTRA BLUE including cork T pieces, I still get a drop of oil now and then, use to pour out of the bell housing weep hole.

    Seal

All the spread bores have a rear seal 2 part, and they are known to leak a bit but you should not be able to see light, so you have some adjusting to do, and as much as I hate silicon in engines a very small amount around this area is a good idea.
