Thread: Bonnet rivets. Painted or not?

Afaik you are right. I think your mate is getting confused with the gal parts.

I am not into washing let alone polishing.

However I was told I had to make an exception with the Royal Review

Ok your forgiven.

I can't remember seeing them unpainted . they would have been able to get a gloss of the gun using enamel & there would have been no need to flatten . We all paint out 80's wrong they didn't leave the factory with much of a shine.
Have you got any photo's of the Royal on its first outing with plates on?

No Wayne I did not take any.
There were heaps of others about with cameras though.

I just had a look at my books "Landrover The Early Years " & " Origional Landrover Series 1" & the vehicles on the covers have unpainted rivets & looling through the black & white photo's in the early years book in some of the photo's it is hard to see but some of them look unpainted.
Looks like I will need to make up a tool to clean the paint off my rivets or bite the bullet & paint Landy again which needs doing & work out a way to do it with out removing the rivets & not paint them.

Yes but which rivets?

There is a thread on the Series II club website which says that rivets used to hold galvanised cappings (etc) in place were fitted after painting so were unpainted. All others were fitted before painting...

EDIT - just had a look at my books and the rivets on the door top are unpainted but the bonnet rivets are clearly painted.
