    Early Series 1

I've just come back from a week visiting in Qld and a friend of mine has an early 50 Series 1 which I am after some info on. It is also original ie nothing has been changed on it during its life.

Unfortunately, being either an idiot, demented or just plain old and forgetful, all of the photos I took didn't turn out because I'd left the SD card in the computer and not returned it to the camera. Why aren't they wireless?

From my little knowledge and inexperience, there seems to be at least 2 early 50 models. This ones engine No starts with R0166 which indicates '50 to me. It also has a wide transom (early '50) which my previous one had. But then it differs. This one has a fishplate chassis, '48 and '49 wheels (dates in a small disc on outside of rim rather than just the last 2 numbers stamped) and a hole in the drivers side floor which I presume to be where the ring pull came from, as there is no yellow knob nor place for it.

Can the gurus enlighten me further? Trust me, I took lots of pics to help with explanations, but .........

It sounds like a 1950 model built towards the end of 1949. Fish plates were used up until number #3840 of the 1950 year.

I'll chase the complete number up. I took a "phantom" photo of it for this very purpose.

Thanks Dennis yes, retirement means supposedly too much time on your hands, but not to remember the important things apparently.

I think you should buy it and it'd be great....

maybe youll need some room, so get rid of something else...

I could help you out there.... I could probably fit something in my shed here,
but it would need angled front panels and maybe shortened back on the rear corners.... something like a gunbuggy maybe????

The thought did cross my mind for a fleeting second Digger, but no, the GB stays with me for now

This particular S1 is not for sale, but a number of others are, all requiring work. They are all rust free though including another fishplate model.
