The yellow paint could contain lead, yes. It's just as toxic as dust breathed in, so you should be taking precautions all the same and disposing of what you are removing.

I would just have a general sweep up once you're done for the day, just to stop it blowing into all the corners of the garage. It's not life and death by any means, just best practice.

Sweep!!!!!! yuk!!!
Suggest you get one of these kits from Bunnings to know for sure if it's lead.

There's a lot of scaly rust sitting on top and when you rip everything off, you find pits of rust in the metal underneath. The only way you can either get rid of the rust or treat what's left, is to remove as much as you sensibly can. Not taking the yellow primer off would just be giving the rust a head start![]()
Hello! Not dropped in here for a while, but its good to see you are still into it with such gusto. Re the chassis, if you've hit it hard with the pressure washer all over, and removed any unsightly bits and pieces, is there any need to remove any more? Its been there stuck fast for 30+ years.. and you can guarantee that any newer paint you apply onto bare shiny metal won't be as good... If it were me I'd be getting anything that's loose and unsightly off, giving the whole thing a buff with scotchbrite, applying primer on the bare metal, and then applying the top coat of your choice. Either way, keep up the good work! This is one vehicle I look forward to seeing on the road again!![]()

As I mentioned in the post above mate, the paint that's stuck is stuck, but there are pits of rust there as well. I could get a top coat to stick to the existing primer, but the rust would be growing underneath. Once those pits start to grow again, they'll just lift the paint off, original primer as well.
Theoretically, I'll be back in the shed tomorrow.
