Help wanted to identify a number

HELP wanted to identify a number.
My mate in Launceston ,Tasmania is restoring this 1958 88" at the moment & he sent me a photo of the side of the motor. It has the number 465 painted on the side & he was wondering what it meant. I have seen motors with the same sort of number painted but couldn't help him.

So I am asking the brains trust , does any one know what it is for?

I thought maybe a reconditioned motor , military or government .

The vehicle was original sold with a diesel , then had a Holden motor fitted & then this 2lit spread bore that is correct for the year of the vehicle.

    Number

I believe Rover painted numbers on the bare blocks , maybe a code for which assembly line or the curing time of the iron after pouring or something. My siamese motor had a large hand painted 3 digit number on the bare cast iron beneath the engine paint.Others have mentioned similar numbers on blocks.

BTW have we heard the news. WW2 Jeep engine blocks are being manufactured NEW . China of course . The demand is so high . Can we wait for a series 1 block NEW

The guys on the LRSOC forum were saying, Rover made the last batch of new S1 blocks in 1967 , aparently, spares .

I'd go and poke around on the series one club forum... I'm certain I've read about the numbers and there meaning in there . Mine had one on drivers side block .. www.lrsoc.com ...I'm thinking they were someway related to casting

Help wanted to identify a number

Had a very quick peek on LRSOC and there markings from the firm that cast the blocks.. 3 digits for Siamese bore engines 4 on spread bore engines ( I painted over the one in my car but I'll peek at it's original block , fairly certain they both were 4 digit)

    Looking sharp there to

Thanks' for that , I have passed this information on to my mate in Tasmania.
He was thinking he had a spread bore but the motor is fitted with the Siamese bore exhaust manifold.
He is wasn't sure weather to paint over the number or around it.

A few more photo's my mate sent me yesterday.
A this is something he found in his garden while working on the L/R.
He could train it to crawl under the L/R to clean all the mud & grease off .
