    80in goes over the pits!

So I got brave and took the 80 over the pits yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised. Fails were limited to a cracked exhaust mount on the rear chassis, exhaust manifold leak and a hole in the front guard where a previous owner had committed a major series crime and cut auxiliary lights in the panel.. pretty happy over all as the steering play was the one I was dreading..
I'll get these sorted this weekend and have also pulled the generator out to try and rebuild it as it's well and truely cactus..
Hopefully by this time next week Canberra and surrounds will have another 80in trying to stay within the white lines!

    Another 80

That is a relief for you.

Some of the roadworthy testers are a pain. Years ago I took in a 1954 107" series 1 for a roadworthy . They failed the exhaust system even though it had a stock standard system. They said somebody might burn themselves walking past the exhaust pipe near the passenger side front guard I cut the manifold pipe a bit and welded in back on .

They also picked the sliding perspex door windows . I glued a little handle onto the perspex .

I am taking my 80 in very soon for a roadworthy . No pits here just the local grease monkey . Wish me luck

The guy who inspected mine was laughing even before the inspection because it was as old as him!! He was practical about its age and associated wear, but actually commented on how good the brakes were..surprised to say the least..

It had a full roll cage on it when I picked it up, right over the top and linked onto the bull bar..weighed about 300kgs! I cut the cage off and left the back bar, for no reason at all, but it's bolted to a factory drawbar so might pull it off and see if I can source a rear PTO as it has the original one mounted on the back of the gear box and is still operational.
