is there a trick to changing steering tube end?

    Hi all,
I took a look at the tie rod ends in my '53 S1 and the front (and easily reached ones are good) however the Steering Tube tie rod ends are shot, and appear to have been too hard for the last owner, as they clearly have not been changed in a very long time.

Access is quite limited, so I'm hoping there is a trick to changing these that will make it easier than it first appears.

Any advice or tips would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks Jeff

Not entirely clear what bit you mean by "steering tube", but I suspect it may be the drag link between the steering box and the relay.

If this is the case, I think the secret is to remove the link complete with the arms from steering box and the relay. This involves removing the nut from the pitman shaft and getting a puller onto it. The relay is easier - remove the grille, and undo the clamp bolt (has to be completely removed) and arm can be pried off.

Removing the RH mudguard will make things easier to get at, but I think that even so, removing the arms will be the way to do it.

On a 53 box the arm sits on parallel splines. You don't need a puller . Remove the pinch bolt, open the gap with a big screw driver and slide the arm off. The same as for the relay.
