Thread: Self cancelling indicators - how to fit?

The rubber wheel is turned by a cylindrical cup screwed to the bottom of the steering wheel boss, and extending over about the top 5cm of the column. The later wheels have tapped screw holes for it, but even if these are missing on your wheel it would not be difficult to add them. The wheel would have to come off, of course.

Any chance of a picture of the cylindrical cup screwed to the bottom of the steering wheel boss, that John referred to?
I can try to make one up on the 3D printer if I know what it looks like.

Impossible to fit to an 80" steering column. The S1 80" column is two 3/16 " , the S2 is one 1/2" in dia. at the end. If you would make one, because of the bigger dia. the self cancelling probably wouldn't work..W.

These are pictures of the cylindrical cup.

I think we may be thinking about different models and different ways of cancelling the indicators.
Indicators.jpg My understanding is that the indicators that can be retro-fitted onto a Series 1 car use a rubber wheel which rolls against the lower wheel boss and this cancels the indicator when the wheel is returned to central position.

The collar shown in the previous post is from a later model which uses an internal pin and cancelling ring to cancel. This type cannot be retro fitted to an Series 1, where as the earlier type can be.

This is all from my reading so can those who actually know from practical experience please dive in with some advice?

I have had one of these switches fitted to my 80" ever since I restored it 29 years ago. It has cancelling fingers in it but never bothered to make it work. I will be looking at how I can make it work probably next week.
The type of switch with the rubber wheel would work if you mounted it on the large boss at the top of the column but you need to work out how to stop the dust cap at the top of the column & under the steering wheel from turning free on the inner column. It needs to be fixed to the inner column. Then you can run the wheel on that.thCX3SNC8Oindicator switch.jpg
Note my switch is an old switch the new ones don't appear to have the ability to self cancel.
