    Series 1 Restoration underway.

    Hi Everybody,

I have reposted my intro in this section as my Landy is a Series 1 (well mainly series 1 rust at the moment!)

Just joined up and wanted to say a quick hi.

I am in the very early stages of a restoration of a 54 86". "Ol Landy" has been in the family for about 55 years as far as I can tell. Unfortunately time and salt have not been kind and I have a very large job on my hands.

Despite this, as I have many, many childhood memories of the old girl I will persist until all is at least as good as the day it left the factory.

I believe the photo below is from the late fifties or early sixties.

My parents moved from Victoria to WA in February 67 at which time the old girl made the almost 3000km trip on the back of a 40 foot trailer towed by a Minneapolis Moline tractor!

This was followed by daily farm duties and an almost nightly ritual of roo shooting on a virgin bush block as it was turned into farmland. Just Dad, Landy's headlights and a 22 rifle.

So the short story is I am going to need a lotttttt of parts and rebuilding services so anyone out there who has been there and done it and is willing to help point me in the right direction, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, from my early readings of the forum it looks as though everybody helps where they can so hopefully at some point I can help someone too.

    Cheers...

    Doug

    Welcome to the forum Doug.

I wrote some articles once, about rust repairs to a chassis; send me a PM if you would like a copy.

It looks as if your shed needs to be bigger, or something has to be moved outside. Aluminium panels are quite happy outside as long as they are sitting above ground; on timber preferably.

    Have fun with the restoration,

    Cheers Charlie

Welcome to the forum. There's blokes on here that have forgotten more than most people will ever know about Landy's , so you are in good hands. Looking forward to seeing how you get on.

    Thanks D.....

Just trying to take it apart one bit at a time at the moment and assess everything as I go. Just wish I had done it 20 years ago!

I am in the process of pulling mine down now and I have found a 50/50 mix of Acetone and ATF is my best friend. So far I have had to drill just the one bolt out and that was because the thread looked to have been pounded on with a large hammer. All the other nuts and bolts have come relatively easy. I like the idea of the plastic bags, all my small bits, nuts and bolts have gone into labeled icecream containers - boy do they start to take up some room quickly.

I've found that repeated applications of the aforementioned WD40 and time, like next weekend work well!

And like D I have used quite a few IKEA ziplock bags of late

    Good luck with yours....
