    I wonder where it is?

I purchased this series 1 in the early 70's. I was a 1958 s1 86" Fully floating rear axles. When I sold it it has a series 2 gearbox and motor with Zenith carbi.

Originally a swb ute, but I built the home made rear canopy later. If anybody still has it or knows where it is I would love to,catch up with it

Looks like an 86" but if it was a '58 it would have been an 88" so I'd suggest it was earlier.

    Hi Perry,

According to rego papers it was 1958. It was the last of the series 1 or so i was told by the LR spare parts shop who used to be located on Middleborough Road in Box Hill. When I converted it to a series 2 motor all bolted straight up, even the engine mounts. Only needed a different bell housing as the S1 gearbox had a small bearing. Was told that the later S1 bodies etc were altered to take the overhead motor, but it was not ready in time so they made the last batch of S1s with the side valve motor but modified the mounts to fit. When I sold it it had a S11 box in it as the old box was more costly to overhaul than to get a later gearbox. Looking at other s1 models I dont see fully floating rear axles. Also from memory the s11 axles would fit but the S11 had a wider track so you could put spacers on the axles flanges and longer bolts to use them. I had 2 spare short axles for mine, but never needed to use them.

    Sounds good David.

I was only pointing out that if it was '58 and as you say, last of the Series 1's it would have been an 88" as the 86" models were I think discontinued in '56 due to the increase in wheelbase to fit the new diesel motor.

    My '57 is an 88"also.
