Grill Mesh finish for 80" Series 1

    Gentlemen,
The grill mesh on my 1953 Series 1 has been chrome plated at some stage but is showing some spots of corrosion. I would like to repair this as part of my restoration but I have not been able to get a clear indication of what the correct finish should be. Should it be chrome plated or zinc plated?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Neither - it should be dip galvanised (which is a form of zinc plating, but "zinc plated" is usually used to distinguish electroplated from dipped). Dipping gives a thicker and far more durable surface, with a different appearance.

The only chrome plated Series grilles were some late Series 2a. Yours will have been an early (probably original) owner's idea of 'bling'.
