May - 86" Series 1

Hi all,

Well according to the engine number & using Clifton Scientific Text Services:

1954
Series 1 Petrol
Home Market
86"

Now I can't find the chassis number - but I seem to remember that the Pons stamped it in a different location for home market?

I have been looking on the LHR spring hanger - not there.

There is no ID plate on the firewall either.

The car was registered in SA - can you register an old vehicle on the engine number alone - without a VIN/Chassis? (And as an extension - I wonder about VIC)

On old trailers Vicroads will happily issue a new VIN, but not sure on vehicles - maybe call
them and ask when you have an hour free to see what the go is. There will be a way, just don't know what it is. Maybe stamp the engine number onto the chassis and use that... [emoji56]

They used to be registered on engine number alone. The vehicles identity now comes from the chassis number or VIN so, in these times, no.

See if you can find the chassis number and restamp it.

im not a lawyer, I never said it was against the law, I simply said "I might be wrong but Im pretty sure your not allowed to cross a strap over like that" and offered a possible solution

I would think the the car number on the plate beside the starter button would be the chassis no & chassis number would be stamped on the R/H front spring bracket.

I've got a 54 86" with the chassis number stamped on top of the left chassis rail, next to the radiator.

Yes, I do understand you didn't say it was against the law, but you did say it was not allowed. Who doesn't allow this? Saying something is not allowed implies there is an enforcement authority. Who would that be?
