    Suggestions for spares please

As mentioned in the Introduction Forum, I expect to be servicing my '97 Disco and need some advice about a sump plug gasket and the preferred make of oil filter but first, is after market stuff cheaper or should I stick with original equipment?
If after market is ok, can someone tell me the ID of the gasket and the kind of metal it is made from; copper/aluminium?
A part number for a filter would be very good if anyone has one handy, as I could have screwed up the reference numbers on my last trip to the auto shop. Please don't go to any trouble though as I can ask %ep#o for a recommendation over the counter.

Thank you all for your help

My suggestion is for you to contact one of our esteemed forum parts people, Roverlord off road spares and they'll put you right.

Oh and you're in the wrong section, Series One refers to 1940's and 1950's vehicles.

Hey mate welcome to the forum, sump plug is copper for v8. I've seen aluminum ones but I think that's for some diesels. You would be better off leaving it out, Hopfully that way it will only leak from the sump and not anywhere else haha. I'm really bad for not replacing them with copper ones. I've got a pack of red Teflon ones from my old 351c that I use on everything, not ideal but better than nothing and I've had no dramas. Filter I've always used ryco for everything other people will probably shun them. Ryco make a "better" filter that must be changed every 15000ks I do it every 10. But mines done nearly 400k. Have fun with your disco just hope you know your way round a set of spanners. If not you will soon that's for sure.
One last thing the oil shoots out sideways you said you have a big oil pan awsome. Get some plastic and reflect the oil into the pan. Or quickly get a funnel and put it over the drain hole. Trust me the oil shoots out horizontal.
    Cheers Jim
