    No Name Series Resto

Series 1 arrived today! 1957 88" with the Holden Red. Plan is a pretty basic resto - get in back on the road and drivable, cleaned up and a bit of fun!

Got the hard top off and will give her a scrub

    No name yet.. suggestions welcomed

    Noice.

Incidentally, it has the wrong grille for an 88". Should be an inverted T. (as in attached) I think that grille is off an 80".

    Welcome bob_d.
Yep, it's off a 50/51, the rarest grill of all Series models I'm told. I've seen them advertised for what I would call crazy money!!!

Thanks Larry! Yes heard when i bought it it was a 51 grill, stoked on that - not sure if i will keep or sell. Am steering away from a complete period resto and more towards something fun to drive.

Have a brake overhaul kit on the way.. next will be some rims and tyres and some smaller bits and pieces. Any tips on what to look at after that are welcomed..

Yes. You can probably sell that grille for enough to buy a new one - and have enough money left over for the rest of the restoration. Well, maybe not quite!

Actually the 48 grill is the rarest . I found und one about 20 years ago & bought it for $10 not knowing they were different to the 50 grills & hung it on the wall of the garage along with other Rover grills I had . A mate came over & spotted it , asked were I got it & gave me a capstan winch as a swap. Thinking about it now I think he got the better deal , but he needed it for his 48 project.

The '48 grill is used on the '48, '49 and '50. The '51 grill is used only on the '51, along with the cat's eye headlights.

48 grill has one more horizontal bar than the 49/ 50. I didn't know that either untill I bought it & mate pointed it out . The top bar is closer to the top & bottom bar is closer to the bottom on the 48's.
    The 48's have 16 horizontal bars , 49/ 50 have 15
