    Carby setup

    Quick question-
I’ve just purchased a replacement carby from Alex at the S1shop. When fitting the choke cable (wire) in which position should the choke arm be? At 12 o’clock with choke button pushed home, or in a different position ( fore or aft of 12)?

The choke lever towards the front stop (about 45 degrees?) so that the choke wire then pulls it back though about 90 degrees.

Just noticed the carby doesn’t have a mixture screw. Looks like it was never drilled and tapped into the body. Can you believe it????

I'm interested in any feedback on the carb. I am about to hit the button to purchase one of those carbs also for my 86".

Carby seems to be ok other than the vac advance pipe being in a slightly different position and the mixture screw being on the opposite side of the carby body. I’ve found that it’s impossible to get access to the mixture screw with a screwdriver as the tappet cover is very close. On the S1shop website this screw is clearly on the original side, so I guess I just lucked out. It’s on and drives fine, but not satisfied with the screw location. I’d ask Alex to take a look inside the box and confirm screw positioning before purchase.
I’m also struggling to fully understand how to set the mixture to optimum performance. There seems bugger all difference in engine idle or performance between needle all in or 2 1/2 turns out. There doesn’t seem to be much on offer in terms of advice on this.

I fitted one of the after market carbys on my 1595cc 80" last year, motor is running a lot better & seams to have more power. The one I bought also had the mixtyre screw & thread for the vacuum line in a different position.

I fitted one of Alex's repro carbs today. Agree that there is bugger all difference in full adjustment of the idle mixture screw, but I think I found a sweet spot. I'm having trouble though with a bad miss on acceleration. I'll have to try for adjustment of the acceleration punp/arm tomorrow?

Yes mixture screw is on the opposite side than original. I can adjust it by hand though or by using a small flat washer as a screw driver.
