    Torque specifications for Series One LRs

    So where does one find the torque specs for Series engines, there's lots of data on clearances etc in the workshop manual but I can't find torque settings anywhere. Need to tighten up my inlet manifold and was trying to find a specification. the 2.25 seems to be 17 Ft/Lb so I'll go with that but wisdom from the masses would be appreciated.

    The only torque specifications ever published officially for the Series 1 is that for head bolts - 75lbft for 1/2" and 12-13 lbft for 5/16".

    Any figures published other than these are ones specified many years later with no authority. When the Series 1 was in production only well equipped workshops had torque wrenches - and even many of these had arrangements to share one among mates in different workshops. Almost no home mechanics had them, but would borrow them for the head bolts if possible.

    The same applied for the Series 2, but there were quite a few more published for Series 3, and, of course, most of these are also applicable to Series 2/2a, and probably a few to Series 1, although not on the engine. And those that seem to be applicable need to be applied with caution because the Series 1 used BSF where Series 3 used UNF or metric on the five bearing engines and probably a few other places on late models.

    Thanks JD, A font of knowledge as usual, I tightened the manifold bolts up evenly and reasonably tight after realising that the only spanner I could get on them was a ring spanner anyway.
