    Piston Part Number Help needed

    Gentlemen,
I am restoring my 1953 80" Series 1, and am starting with the engine.
The vehicle is fitted with a later spread-bore 2 litre block, believed to have been provided by Land Rover under warranty.
However it appears that they only provide the bare essentials, and reused any compatible parts, including the Pistons ( I think).

However, I am keen to make sure that I use the right parts in my rebuild, but I cannot find any reference to the part number of the pistons in any Land Rover Parts Catalouge, so seeking help from the experts here at this forum.

The pistons in the image shows a part number cast into the inner skirt, that is 59 240575 IC.
Unfortunately I cannot find any reference to this number so hoping someone can tell me what the real part number is so I order a correct replacement.

    Many thanks
    Jeff

Measure the diameter of the gudgeon pin. Early ones were smaller diameter than the later spread bore engines. Its the main reason to stuff up the correct piston selection, apart from oversize etc.

    Thanks Chris,
As my pistons were transferred into the replacement spread bore block by Land Rover, from the original siamese bore motor, they are actually the earlier type with smaller 17,5mm pins.

I just cannot find any reference anywhere to that Part Number.

    regards
    Jeff

I guess the pin dia is 11/16" rather than 17.5mm

LANDROVER SERIES 1 4 CYLINDER 2.0 LITRE PISTON & RING SET STD 50-55 11/16" PIN - JP Pistons

Worthwhile contacting Auto Surplus to see if they have loose pistons. They buy up old stock, job lots etc.

JP Pistons products for Rover 2 Litre 15 H.P., Land Rover Series I, 60 1997cc engines

Here's a supplier in the UK 12199 STD Piston suitable for a Rover Land Rover Series I

    Jeff,
The part number for a STD 1952/1953 1997cc engine is 246346,. Download the 1952/53 parts book. It has lots of useful pictures and info in it. Some of the numbers would have been superceded over the years, but the original part number is a good place to start. I agree with other forum members. Cox and Turner are probably the most knowledgeable S1 reconditioners around. Get someone to meaure your bores so that you get the right size pistons and rings. don't toss your scuffed piston until you get a reputable engine rebuilder to look at it and its mates. 5380
