List of bolt sizes and thread types used on a Series 1 Engine

    Gentlemen,
I came across this list of bolt sizes and thread types used on Series 1 engines on a UK Land Rover Forum.

Series 1 Engine Bolts Sizes and Thread Types

1/4"UNF for the rear cam gallery plate fixing bolts & thermostat housing bolts.
5/16"UNF for the cam gallery side covers, timing case, sump & the small rocker bolts.
3/8"UNF for the flywheel housing to block bolts.
7/16"UNF for the oil filter bolts.
1/2"UNF for the large head bolts & the front engine mounting bolts into the block.
1/4"UNC for the small water pump bolts & the timing pointer studs in the flywheel housing.
3/8"UNC for the stud holes in the flywheel housing.
1/8"BSP for the banjo bolts in the rocker oil feed pipe.

This looks like very useful information, but I wonder if there is a better or more extensive list around?

    regards
    Jeff

I suggest someone who has a Series one should check this information. I was under the impression that Unified threads only came with Series 2, and would have guessed these threads were Whitworth and BSF.

I guess you'd only need a list of bolts if you haven't got the bolt that was removed or you're ordering new bolts without checking what's fitted ?

Like John, I'd have thought most were BSF & Whitworth on the Series I. UNC & Whitworth are the same pitch 1/4" to 1/2" but different thread angles, whoever posted the list may have 'guessed' UNC.

Had a look in the parts manual and size/length is given but not the thread type.

You'd need to find someone with a lot of time on their hands to produce a list. Someone in the UK supplies complete nut & bolt kits but it's unlikely they list what goes where.

Useful information ? It's rubbish. Check your S1 parts catalogue All the threads are BSF unless otherwise stated.
